MFC receives a competitive $14.18M Forest Legacy Program Grant from the U.S. Forest Service to purchase 14,071 acres on the Wolf River in Harrison and Hancock Counties.
This new education and research forest will serve as a training ground for future natural resource professionals studying at Mississippi State University and for landowners and others interested in learning about managing coastal forests and restoring native longleaf pine.
MFC leveraged the Forest Legacy Grant, funded by MDEQ, and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Gulf Environmental Benefit Fund. The Nature Conservancy also helped facilitate the purchase of the tract from Weyerhaeuser.
